Ann Parish Elementary

TODAY

Ann Parish Elementary is a learning community for both students and staff. We believe in high levels of learning for ALL. Here, we leverage the Apple ecosystem to help students become independent thinkers. We embrace theintegration of iWork, Everyone Can Create, and Everyone Can Code so students develop and share new, innovative and original ideas. This unique pathway supports our mission of empowering students with high levels of learning and confidence with technology. Before receiving the Apple ConnectEd grant in 2014, technology was an occasion: a class where students went to once a week. Today, Ann Parish is a technology-rich environment.Today, Ann Parish Elementary is the pioneer of digital learning for the district. Our school serves as the model for other elementary schools who integrate Apple technology in their classrooms.

Our vision at Ann Parish Elementary is to work collaboratively to achieve the greatest success for all. With Apple, we foster creativity and deepen critical thinking across all grade levels.

Teachers promote risk-taking and teach students that mistakes are opportunities for learning and growing.

Students learn to take ownership of their learning by using their voice to create and share original digital content. Within our Apple ecosystem, students can take learning beyond the traditional classroom to write, solve problems, and design for the real world.

Additionally, the iPad allows us to connect to our community, provide on-going learning, and address their social-emotional well-being at home.

Learning

At Ann Parish, we recognize the importance of celebrating the achievements of our student and adult learners. From novice to skilled, we believe in the value of supporting all learning. Students use technology daily to create, communicate, and collaborate.

Student Learning
Students have increased problem solving skills with Everyone Can Code, using apps like Swift Playgrounds and Code Spark. These skills have taught students to approach learning in a way that makes them successful. Students also have extended learning opportunities for coding after school with clubs like Girls Who Code and Botball Robotics.

Using Everyone Can Create, teachers enhance learning for students, both in class and after school in the Stop Motion Club and Tech Club. Our use of technology amplifies student voice and helps us reach all learners.

Adult Learning
As leaders of learning, teachers collaborate in grade-level teams, working interdependently towards a common learning goal. They participate in coaching cycles with Apple Professional Learning and Apple Distinguished Educators to build confidence and skills.

“The [professional development] on the iPad is very relevant to mine and my students' learning in an engaging way. It helps me get a little more comfortable using technology for teaching and learning.” - Cindy Smith, 4th Grade Teacher

Success

Teacher leaders are our greatest resource. By investing in purposeful professional development we have built the capacity of highly qualified teachers. We provide ongoing support to our new teachers in becoming Apple Teachers.
100% of our new teachers have received their Apple badges for both iPad and MacBook.

During collaboration, teachers obtain data from common formative assessments given to students. These reoccurring cycles of collective inquiry inform teachers how to best meet the needs of every learner and provide entry points for creativity and personalized learning. As a result, we can ensure a positive impact on student academic achievement.

What's Next?

As we look to the future, our goals are to continue to build our capacity by providing teachers with rich professional learning experiences to develop skills that elevate student creativity and promote independent learners who approach problems with a growth mindset.

In the way we are pioneers of digital learning in our district, we will be the pioneers in the state of New Mexico.

To do this we will:
• expand our scope and sequence for teaching creatively with technology
• continue using Apple Professional Learning to help teachers design lessons that promote student choice and increase use of Accessibility features
• use executive coaching opportunities to promote a learning environment centered around innovation
