Attendance

It is required by the New Mexico Compulsory School Attendance Law (NMSA 1978 Sect. 22-12-1 to 22-12-8), that all school age students attend school. School age students are identified as individual ages 5-18. The Attendance Success Act requires that schools provide a process for prevention of absences and early intervention for students who are absent, or chronically absent.

Absences:
If your child is absent from school please notify the office, in writing, within 24 hours of the student returning to school. This will avoid an unexcused, no contact absence.

Tardiness:
If students arrive after the 9:05 AM tardy bell, parents are to call the school upon arrival. Office staff will come outside to your vehicle for your assistance. Students should go directly to class. Parents will be contacted in regards to continued tardiness. Three late arrivals will be considered one absence.

Early Check Outs:
Parents/guardians will need a picture ID to check students out early from school through our Raptor System. For student safety, any changes to after school transportation must be made in person no later than 2:00pm; this includes early pickup. In the case of an emergency, exceptions may be made at the discretion of the administrator.

Truancy

All students shall be expected to attend school during the Academic School Year, in accordance with the Compulsory School Attendance Law (22-12-1 to 22-12-7 NMSA 1978). Under a cooperative agreement, referrals can be made to the Valencia County District Attorney’s Office, of students/families who fail to comply with the Compulsory School Attendance Law. The Los Lunas School District’s policies relating to truancy and Compulsory School Attendance is directly related to the New Mexico Statues 1978, Chapter 22-12-2 which states any parent, guardian or person having custody and control of a person subject to the provisions of the Compulsory School Attendance Law (Chapter 22, Article 12 NMSA 1978) is responsible for the school’s attendance of that person.
